The Goodwill Industry Bookworks Program is an early childhood literacy encouragement program made available to at-risk pre-school level students in the Brandon and Tampa Bay areas, supported by each location’s Kiwanis club. Through this program, Kiwanis volunteer readers present an age appropriate book during story time to the young students and gift a book to each student in attendance to take home as their own.

The goal of this program is to nurture and encourage a love for reading and listening to stories to help the young students grow into strong readers and better students.

The program is hosted once each month throughout the school year at several participating schools and by the end of the year, each child has their own personal library and proud ownership of books.

For many young children, a book is a gateway to experience a whole new world—serving to not only enhance their ability to read and nourish their imagination, but also to teach them confidence in reading and in all things they do.

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon supports this program by providing volunteer readers and raising funds to purchase books for the students we serve to take home and enjoy. To date, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon has encouraged 9 volunteer readers to change the lives of young children, have read to over 365 children, and provided books to students at 12 schools with the goal for more every school year.

With continuing support from our members, sponsors, and community donations, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon helps to keep this program alive and well—and growing—in the Brandon community.
